Derek says he’s very happy with TV5 who gave him the chance to cover the Olympics in London and host the local version of “Amazing Race”. “They gave me ‘Kidlat’, ‘Undercover’, and now this movie with Angel Aquino. After this, I’m doing the new season of ‘Amazing Race’ that will be set around Asia. We’ll start taping in June so I wouldn’t be able to go to the World Cup in Brazil. By the last quarter of the year, I’m doing a teleserye with Aga Muhlach, ‘My Brother’s Keeper’. So, kumpleto na lahat ng projects ko for the whole year. And I’m also doing a new movie for Viva, ‘My Trophy Wife’, with Cristine Reyes and Heart Evangelista.”
Isn’t it awkward working with Cristine after they broke up? “Hindi naman kami naghiwalay na magkaaway. We had a very short relationship because we both realized that we’re really meant to be just friends, matalik na magkaibigan. Sa shooting nga, we even share the same dressing room.”
About his lovelife, he says it’s zero. “Wala nga akong ka-Valentine. I’m spending the Valentine weekend in Davao for a mall show to help promote the shows of TV5. From there, I’ll go to Bacolod for a fun run. I’ve also just been to Tacloban with PLDT Gabay Guro at naiyak ako when I saw the devastation of Typhoon Yolanda. Marami nang nalinis pero marami pa ring mga kasiraang dudurog sa puso mo.”
