WE ARE SO proud of home grown figure skater Michael Christian Martinez for shining brightly at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He makes history as the first skater from South East Asia and from a tropical country to join the skating event usually dominated by European and American skaters. As of this writing, he has made it it to the men's free skate finals.
At 17 and the youngest among the contestants, Michael started skating in a mall ice skating rink when he was 9 years old. His parents, who grow vegetables for export, encouraged him. They even mortgaged their own house just to finance his figure skating. Here’s hoping he’d win so that he can get endorsements and some companies to sponsor him. His attire worn at Siochi was just donated by a New York designer who read his request for a sponsor for his Olympic outfit. Let’s all pray for his triumph at Sochi Winter Olympics.
