THE FINAL PRESSCON of “Voices of Love”, the Valentine concert of Regine Velasquez and Martin Nievera at Luxent Hotel, started with the Holy Mass offered for the repose of the soul of Mang Gerry Velasquez, Regine’s dad. So how’s Regine now?
“I’m okay,” she says. “Our whole family is coping well because God gave us a bit of time to prepare us. After he got sick last year, nakasama pa namin siya for some months. But now, it’s really his time and I think he really wants to go kasi pagod na rin siya. Laging masakit ang likod niya because he had scoliosis. At least now, he’s no longer suffering, no pain. I bet where he is now, he’s handsome again, meron na siyang ngipin and I’m sure kumakain yun ng chicharon na favorite niyang kainin. We’re more worried for our mom but, I think, na-accept na rin niya.”
So is she singing a song for her dad? “The whole show is dedicated to him, but I changed one song in our original repertoire to pay tribute to my Papa. I won’t say what song I’d sing, basta abangan nyo na lang. All the time during his wake, I really controlled myself para hindi ako masyadong umiyak kasi tiyak na my voice will be affected. Kundi ako nagpigil, siguro namamalat na ko ngayon. I’d really miss my Papa as we were always together. He never missed my concerts and shootings ng movie ko, nandun siya lagi. I’ll really miss him. It’s a consolation na nakita niya ang apo niya sa’kin, si Nate, at magkamukha silang maglolo, pati sa buhok nila.”
All is set for “Voices of Love” this Friday, 8 PM at the SM MOA Arena, produced by Anna Puno of StarMedia Entertainment.
