DENIECE CORNEJO and Cedric Lee suffered a big blow in the eye of the public with the resignation of their spokesman, Atty. Raymond Fortun who was not able to bear the countless bashings he got from netizens for siding with his controversial clients. He declares: “Hindi ko inasahan ‘yung katakut-takot na paninira. Ang masakit dito, pagkatao ko ang binabanatan. That is the one that hurts the most. Sasabihin na pera-pera lang daw ako. They need to understand that the right to freedom to express the opinion does not include the right to destroy the reputation for the wrong reasons. Hindi po kasama ‘yung pagpapahayag ng pagmumura, ‘yung paninira ng puri ng tao. For me, mas mabuti siguro na magbitiw na lang ako kasi I did not deserve what I got.”
What really got the ire of the public is his defense that there’s no malice in Cedric’s kissing Deniece inside the elevator shown on CCTV. He also didn’t like Deniece’s talking to media about it when they already agreed that he’s the only one who’ll speak for them. Obviously, this early in the game, he must have realized that the fight is a losing battle as his clients are the ones who are incriminating themselves. On the other than, Deniece’s legal counsel, Atty. Howard Calleja, is also the victim of cyber bashing and what netizens say about him is even worse, but obviously, he’s made of stronger stuff than Fortun as he holds on to his position.
