ABS-CBN's Teen Queen Kathryn Bernardo Turns 18 And Has Three Birthday Celebrations No Less

KATRHYN BERNARDO is turning 18 on March 26. We saw her growing right before our eyes. She started her career as a child star in 2003 in “It Might Be You” and went on to do more kiddie roles in “Krystala”, “Super Inggo”, “Vietnam Rose”, “Prinsesa ng Banyera” and “Goin Bulilit”. In 2010, she appeared simultaneously in ABS-CBN’s “Magkaribal” and GMA-7’s “Endless Love”. She decided to stay with ABS and was launched in the lead role of Mara in “Mara Clara” in 2010 to 2011.

That made her a hit teen star and her stock was further boosted when she was paired with Daniel Padilla in the afternoon show “Growing Up”. Their love team clicked so they were given their own primetime soap, “The Princess and I”, and later, “Got to Believe”. On the big screen, they did “24/7 in Love”, “Sisterakas”, “Must Be Love” and “Pagpag”, all hits. They’re now doing the movie “She’s Dating the Gangster”. So how does it feel to be 18?

“I don’t feel na may nagbago sa akin,” she says. “Parang 16 pa rin ang feeling ko, naiba lang yung number. But at 18, I’m ready to face more possibilities, be more adventurous like learn how to drive, do bungee jumping, explore the world and travel to Europe.”

Would she like to try living on her own other stars when they turned 18? “I’m not ready na mahiwalay sa mommy ko. She’ll still manage my finances. Masyado kong close sa family ko. Ayokong mahiwalay sa pamangkin ko, gusto ko siya makitang mag-grow.”

Kathryn will celebrate her birthday several times. This Sunday, she’ll celebrate it in ASAP at noon, then her fans are hosting a special party for her in the evening at Fernwood Gardens with about 200 of them invited. Her grand debut will be on March 29, Saturday, at the Blue Leaf.

“Actually, hindi ko binalak mag-debut. Gusto ko sana, to travel to Europe with my family, but they explained to me that this is an important milestone in my life. At para na rin sa fans ito. So pinagplanuhan ko na and I got excited. I want it to be one of a kind debut. Ayoko noong usual princess theme or circus theme. Para maiba, it’ll modern vintage, with modern Filipino architecture sa design ng venue, which is closer to my personality. Hands on ako pati sa invitations, giveaways and the motif is black and misty pink. I want the program to be short para hindi ma-bore ang guests. Dalawang beses lang ako magpapalit ng suot. The first gown is by Francis Libiran and the second is by Vania Ramoff.”

Her first dance will be her dad, followed by her brother, and the last dance is with her escort, Daniel Padilla. Celebs who’ll participate in the 18 roses and 18 candles are Enrique Gil, Robi Domingo, Neil Coleta, Dominic Roque, Dominic Ochoa, Ian Veneracion, Joshua Dionisio, Steven Fermo, Jhong Hilario, Kahilil Ramos, Manilyn Reynes, Miles Ocampo, Julia Montes, Gretchen Barretto and Kris Aquino. The others are relatives and non-showbiz friends of hers. The debut will be shown on Sunday’s Best on April 6 as a special entitled “Kathryn18: My 18th Birthday Vlog”.
