MISS WORLD MEGAN YOUNG is in town for the launch of her special souvenir stamps with Philpost and she’s elated to learn that a movie she did with Ely Buendia as director will finally be shown on April 9. She even has a shower scene in “Pusakal”, the episode she did for the omnibus movie, “Bang Bang Alley”. It’s the directorial debut of the former Eraserheads vocalist and he has nothing but praises for Megan.
“She transforms in the movie and inhabits the role she’s playing,” he says. “Wala kaming naging problem with her as she’s very professional and very down to earth. Definitely, hindi siya beauty queen dito as she’s deglamourized playing the role of a young woman who has killed someone at nagtatago sa mga alagad ng batas na humahanap sa kanya. Nagtago siya sa bundok ng Benguet at napatira siya kay Manang Rose, played by Perla Bautista, na gaya niya, may sarili ring lihim.”
It’s good he’s able to convince Megan to go daring in her shower scene. “Hindi siya maarte. Kasi hindi naman malaswa ang eksena. Actually, three days na kami halos walang ligo dahil sa shooting kaya enjoy siya to shoot that scene.”
How did he cast Megan in the role? “I saw her on the cover of a magazine. Her looks certainly fit Abby, the character that I wrote for the movie. Before that, I saw her in the movie, ‘The Reunion’ but hindi naman challenging ang role niya roon. I asked for a meeting and when I saw her in person, na-confirm kong bagay siya sa role ng isang rich girl na kick ass. I gave her the script and after reading it, pumayag agad siyang gawin ang movie. Wala pa kaming inkling noon na magiging Miss World pala siya later. Magaling siya sa acting niya rito. Marami siyang gugulatin. After her stint as Miss World, I hope she returns to acting dahil mahusay siyang aktres.”
Now that he has started his lifelong dream of being a filmmaker, will he turn his back on music? “No, hindi naman. Siempre, diyan ako unang nakilala and I aim to write more songs. But I also hope to continue directing more films as I realized that it’s something that I really love doing. And it is a much bigger scale, also involves music, it involves design, it involves acting. Kumbaga lahat nung artform na pwede mong gawin nandito. So, that for me is very fulfilling and interesting. And I always like to learn new stuff. Kumbaga bumalik na naman ako sa school dito as it’s a brand new ballgame, a brand new challenge. And I’m always up for that. Pwede ko namang pagsabayin ang music at filmmaking hangga’t makakaya ng schedule ko.”
