LUCY TORRES GOMEZ is busy now as Ormoc representative, especially after Typhoon Yolanda devastated their place. But she’s glad to be back doing something she truly enjoys: dancing. She’ll be hosting and dancing in TV5’s “Celebrity Dance Battle” that starts airing this Saturday, March 22.
“I welcome this as a breaker from my hectic work in congress,” she says. “Na-miss ko rin ito after I did ‘Shall We Dance’ which ended in 2010. Tamang-tama kasi wala na rin ang ‘Talentadong Pinoy’ na judge ako at wala na rin ako sa ‘Showbiz Police’.”
How did her love for dancing start? “It started when I saw a flamenco dancer in Cebu. I got fascinated by it so I enrolled in a flamenco class and then sa ballroom dancing. It requires a lot of discipline so nag-enjoy ako. Even without a show, I always dance as it’s very good exercise.”
As of now, she’s also busy with her Mission Possible project that aims to give bancas to Leyte fishermen who lost their bancas to Yolanda. “We just gave bancas to 50 families and their tears of joys and smiles make all our efforts worth it. I wish there’d be more people to help us in our project.”
In “Celebrity Dance Battle”, celebrities are pitted against each other while paired with expert dance partners who will help them take their dance battle all the way to the championship. The celebrity guests in tomorrow night’s pilot episode are actress Valerie Concepcion, beauty queen Priscilla Meirelles, transgender beauty queen Kevin Balot and cager Gary “El Granada” David.
Lucy will do her own dance numbers with co-hosts David and Anthony Semerad. Will she invite husband Richard Gomez to dance in the show? “He doesn’t really dance pero mapipilit ko naman siya siguro to join us. He just needs to practice a lot.”
She once did the sitcom “Richard Loves Lucy” with her husband. Doesn’t she miss acting? “We just played ourselves there as newlyweds. I’m not really an actress. I once agreed to play the role of the Blessed Virgin in GMA’s ‘Mga Mata ni Angelita’, special role lang. I also agreed to play the Inang Engkantada in ‘Ang Panday 2’ dahil Sen. Bong Revilla donated classrooms in Ormoc. Honestly, I’d rather just dance kaysa umarte.”
