Award-Winning Child Actor Migz Cuaderno Faces A New Challenge As An Autistic Boy In 'Asintado'

AWARD-WINNING child actor Migz Cuaderno is a talent of Direk Maryo de los Reyes. Last year, he had two entries in Cinemalaya: “Quick Change” and “Purok 7”. He is excited but somehow scared in how he’ll interpret his role as the title roler in Direk Louie Ignacio’s Cinemalaya entry for this year, “Asintado (Between the Eyes)”.

“Kasi wala po akong kahit isang linya ng dialogue,” he says. “Autistic po yung role ko as Intoy, may sariling mundo pero napakagaling sa pag-asinta. Lagi lang siyang namumulot ng mga bato na itinatago niya sa loob ng bahay nila. Ito ang ginagamit niya pag may gusto siyang asintahin.”

Direk Louie is helping him do some research on his role with actual autistic kids. “Ang ganda ng role kasi nakikipag-relate lang yung bata, sa ina niya, played by Aiko Melendez, and his Kuya, si Jake Vargas,” says Direk Louie. “He won’t interact with other people. Pero pag may gusto siya asintahin kahit anong bagay, puede niyang patamaan. At ito ang gagamitin ng nanay niya sa story para ipagtanggol ang family nila against a drug pusher sa lugar nila, si Gabby Eigenmann, who sells drugs to both local and foreign tourists who come to their place during the Taong Putik Festival in Bibiclat, Nueva Ecija. It’s during the actual festival magaganap ang pag-asinta ni Intoy kay Gabby.”

Migz also stars with Susan Roces in the coming dramatic presentation specially made for Lent by TAPE to be shown of the usual musical variety show of “Eat Bulaga” this coming Holy Week.
