THE BOYS OF JUAN Direction is glad to be part of TV5’s new sitcom, “One of the Boys”, starring Eula Caballero and Joey de Leon. Daniel Marsh acts as the leader of the group. He’s 24, Fil-Irish, has a Cebuana mom so he lived for a while in Cebu before finding work in Manila. His mom was a big Sharon Cuneta fan and was so thrilled when he became a guest in Sharon’s musical show with Ogie Alcasid before. He was on with his last girlfriend for seven years but he prefers to be single now that he’s in showbiz. To be more familiar with the Tagalog language, he watches local movies and TV shows. In “One of the Boys”, he gets to woo Eula Caballero. “I feel comfortable with her since we’re both from Cebu,” he says. “I also had fun exchanging stories with Joey de Leon because he recently visited Ireland where I lived for a while. They’re both very helpful in teaching us how to speak Tagalog.”
Henry Edwards plays the champion race car driver who is the contravida to Daniel. He’s 23, Fil-British, was born in Angeles, Pampanga and his mom is of Aeta descent. He was taken to England after Mt. Pinatubo erupted. He grew up in Essex but his mom and dad are now also back in Angeles where they own a restaurant. He’s trying his best to learn how to speak Tagalog fluently. He admits having had a Pinay girlfriend before but they broke up as the girl wants them to get married soon but he felt he’s not ready to be a family man at 23. He enjoys working with Joey de Leon, who plays Eula’s dad in “One of the Boys”, as Joey can be funny off an on cam.
The other members of Juan Direction are Charlie Sutcliffe (Fil-Brit with mom from Cebu and dad from Wales, born in Bristol, England), Brian Wilson (Fil-Brit born in Rosario, Cavite with Pinay mom and British dad, was 6 when they moved to England) and Michael McDonnell (Fil-Canadian, born in Dauis, Bohol to a Boholana mom and Czech-Canadian dad).
In their own show “Juan Direction”, they got to explore various places in the Philippines, including Quiapo, Cebu, Bohol, Baguio, Bacolod, Nueva Vizcaya, Hundred Islands and many more. It was truly an eye-opening experience for them to see the beauty of the country and culture of their mothers.
But now, they face a new challenge in acting in a sitcom like “One of the Boys” which starts airing this Saturday at 9PM to brighten up your weekend. “This is really new to us,” says Charlie. “And we’re taking baby steps as we go into acting. It’s good that everyone is nice to us and they all try to help us do well in our first acting job.”
