“I’ll also like to work with Direk Joel Lamangan,” says Derek. “We did ‘Bawat Sandali’ with TV5 and it turned out really well.”
After this, Roselle wants Derek to do a movie with his ex-GF Solenn Heussaff and Kris Aquino, who still has an existing contract with Regal. How does Derek feel about all this? “I’m excited. I like the way they approached me. They pitched the story with Marian that I really liked. I feel it’s a blessing to have the chance to work with them.”
But he’s still with Viva doing “Trophy Wife”. “Yes, three to four days na lang yun, matatapos na. 99% of the movie was reshot as we got a new director, Andoy Ranay. Third week of June ang playdate.”
Jojie Dingcong, Derek’s amiable manager, clarifies: “We’re not exclusive with any film outfit. We’re also considering signing up with APT of Mr. Tuviera or even GMA Films. Open kami kahit indie movie, basta very good ang material.”
Mother Lily butts in: “Matagal ko na nililigawan yang si Derek but he used to be exclusive with ABS. He’s my dream boy so this is a dream come true for me. I told him if I were 40 years younger and single or if I’d get reincarnated, I’d court him and I will marry him.”
What can he say when Kris Aquino insinuated in her posts on social media that they have a relationship? She even said: “God must love me to give me someone like you to lean on & count on”. “There’s no relationship,” he stresses. “Hindi ako nanligaw. In front of the cameras, we’re very good friends, not just to me, but she’s a friend of our family. She asked for advice and I gave it to her from a man’s perspective and she’s done the same thing to me. She’s given me a lot of advice and helped me out.”
Some folks say Kris is using her for publicity. “I’m the one who has a friendship with Kris, so I’d know kung ginagamit ako. From the help and advice that Kris has given me, kung ano yung mga ipinakita niya sa akin, hindi ako maniniwala na ginagamit niya ako. I respect that she knows my family and she’s not that type of person. I don’t feel like I’ve been used. She’s Kris Aquino, she has everything.”
Is he willing to work with her? “Yes, we’ve already done a commercial together nung wala pa kong pangalan. There was also an offer for an indie film where were almost paired but the problem is her schedule so di natuloy.”
How about with Marian Rivera? “Oh, I’m very excited to work with Marian. I’ve met her, she’s a very beautiful lady, a brilliant actress, but very down to earth. I really like her and I look forward to doing this project with her for Regal.”
We heard it’ll be very sexy. Is he ready to do again what he did in “No Other Woman” where he had butt exposure? “That butt exposure there was just accidental. I was wearing skin-toned leggings but as we were taking the scene, napunit yung leggings and when the director saw it, sabi kay Anne (Curtis): ‘sige, hawakan mo’. Okay lang naman to go sexy basta in good taste.”
Is he willing to do a gay role? “Yes, why not? I’d love the challenge. Actually, Star offered me one then and I agreed, but the role went to John Lloyd Cruz with Vilma Santos.”
Does he have a lovelife now? “Yes, I’m seeing someone but I want to keep it for myself na lang. Before, I was an open book, I always answer, but I promised myself na when it comes to my lovelife now, I wanna be more private. I’m getting older. I’m at that point in my life when I have to find the right one. So I will just keep this to myself for now. But if you’d ask kung masaya ang puso ko ngayon, the answer is yes, masaya ang puso ko.”
