BELA PADILLA has not had a new soap since she did “Love and Lies” with Richard Gutierrez exactly a year ago. “Buti na lang hindi ako naging idle kasi I did ’10,000 Hours’, promoted another movie I made earlier, ‘Bang Bang Alley’, and then I did a TV series in Singapore, ‘Point of Entry’ where I appeared for 14 weeks. Para itong ‘CSI’ and I played a student from Manila. May twist sa character ko kasi naging kontrabida ako in its 7th week.”
What’s the difference between TV work here and there? “May cut off kami roon, hanggang 10 PM lang, rest na. Unlike here na inaabot ng magdamagan. At sila roon, about ten people lang ang involved sa set. Ni wala akong P.A. (production assistant) kaya ako lahat ang bahala sa anumang kailangan ko. Unlike here na there are about 100 people sa taping at may P.A. ang mga artista.”
How’s her boyfriend, Neil Arce, who produced “10,000 Hours”? “He’s okay. Kami pa rin.” Any wedding plans? “None. I’m so young to get married. I just turned 23 on May 3.”
So how did she celebrate her birthday? “Malungkot. Kasi my maternal lola, sister of Mommy Eva Carino, died from cancer. She’s 80 years old. Akong nagbantay sa kanya sa hospital.”
What’s Neil’s birthday gift to her? “Pinapili niya ako kung anong gusto ko and I chose clothes from River Islands and Top Shelf.” Will Neil join the next Metro Manila filmfest again? “I’m not sure. But if ever matuloy sila ni Boy2 Quizon, hindi na muna ako sasali kasi I’ll be very busy.”
She’s now about to start taping for a new show on GMA News Channel 11, “Sa Puso ni Dok.” This is in line with their socially relevant shows like “Bayan Ko” and “Titser”.
“Dennis Trillo and I will be playing doctors who are dedicated to their profession,” she says. “This will focus on the issues concerning the medical profession and will be directed by Adolf Alix, who’ll also direct the new movie I’m supposed to make, ‘Cain at Abel’, where I will be paired with Aljur Abrenica. I’m also in the cast of another movie, ‘Barbara’, which will be a reboot of ‘Patayin Mo sa Sindak si Barbara’, directed by the late Celso Ad. Castillo. The new version will be helmed by his son Chris Castillo. I’m also writing a column for Inside Showbiz Magazine starting this month. My first column is about the do’s and don’ts one should observe when taking an audition.”
