New GMA Tween Actor Miguel Tanfelix Is A Potential Teen Heartthrob

IT SEEMS ONLY yesterday when GMA-7 introduced their new Tween Stars led by former child stars Barbie Forteza and Bea Binene. Now, they’re introducing another new tween love team, that of Miguel Tanfelix, 15, and Bianca Umali, 14, who are officially being introduced in a touching inspirational drama of love, hope and faith, “Niño”.

To build them up, GMA has made them start attending showbiz events together, like the affair of a magazine for teenagers, and everyone believes they have the much needed “kilig” chemistry to quickly gain fans and followers for their tandem. This early, Miguel already has his own following, which is not surprising since he has the clean cut good looks of a true matinee idol and teen heartthrob.

“Kapag nakikita po ako ng mga tao in public, may tumatawag na sa’kin ng Nino, kahit trailer pa lang ng bagong show namin ang napapanood nila,” he says. “Sabi nila, inaabangan nila talaga ang pagsisimula nito.”

Miguel won as 1st runnerup in Starstruck Kids exactly 10 years ago when he was 5 years old. GMA then got him as a child actor and he did soaps like “Mulawin”, “Mahika”, “Fantastic Man” and many more. He did three movies: “Hari ng Sablay”, “Mulawin the Movie” and “I Will Always Love you” in 2005 and 2006.

How did he interpret playing a mentally challenged teen in “Nino”? “Malaking tulong ni Direk Maryo de los Reyes. Kasi wala talaga akong paghuhugutang karanasan on how I will do it. Basta ang lagi niyang reminder, ilagay mo ang sarili mo sa isip ng isang 8 year old. Dapat ganun ka rin mag-isip at kumilos. So far naman, sabi niya, okay ang acting ko.”

“Nino” starts airing on Monday, May 26, right after “24 Oras”. “Kambal Sirena” will take the place of “Carmela” that will have its explosive final telecast tomorrow night.
