STEVEN SILVA is the male winner in Starstruck 5 while Sarah Lahbati was the female winner. But his career didn’t get anywhere until now when he was cast as one of the lead roles in the Singaporean TV series, “The Boston”. It doesn’t refer to the American city in Massachusetts but is the name of a restaurant where Steven’s character get to work as a chef. The role is really up his alley as he has finished a course in culinary arts. The TV series of 8 episodes will showcase his talent for singing, dancing, acting and cooking when it starts airing on the Lifestyle channel on June 18.
"The audition experience for The Boston was really nerve-wracking and long, but in the end, it was completely worth it,” he says. “My first audition was conducted in September 2013. After numerous call backs, I learned I was part of the final cast. It was a very thorough process and I could tell they really wanted to make sure that each character was to be filled by the right actor.”
Steven will be portraying an intriguing character in the series. “The character I play in The Boston is named ‘Sid’ and he is the pastry chef in the restaurant. He is one of the more skilled chefs in the kitchen, yet he is very soft spoken and doesn't necessarily take command even though he is more than qualified to do so. He is also very particular to his sense of style and physical upkeep and appearance. In a sense, he is very metro sexual and very mysterious so some folks suspect he’s gay, yet no one really knows the truth.”
Many people didn't know that Steven earned a degree in Culinary Arts, which helped him land his role in “The Boston”. "I hold a degree in Culinary Arts from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, which I completed in 2010, before I came to the Philippines and joined StarStruck in GMA.”
As Steven adds another feather in his cap, he can’t help but say, “I’m thankful to God for all the blessings that I’ve been receiving”. Meanwhile, Steven Silva is also part of GMA Network’s musical variety program “Sunday All Stars” and “Taste Buddies”. He’s also going to Hawaii to be a consort in a Flores de Mayo there this weekend. Doesn’t he feel bad that he’s the Starstruck V winner and yet Rocco Nacino who’s only his second runnerup is now busier and more popular than him?
“I don’t take it against Rocco. At first, they told me to be patient and wait kasi hindi ako magaling mag-Tagalog. But I can now speak Tagalog fluently and yet I haven’t been given any new soap after ‘Koreana’. I think it’s part of the network’s responsibility to make use of their talents. They tell me my time will come but when? My contract with GMA is already expiring next year. I really wish they’d give me a good acting project soon. Hopefully, I’d get noticed in ‘The Boston’ para mabigyan naman ako ng magandang role in a local show.”
He was linked to Diva Montelaba. How are they now? “Our split was a mutual decision. We changed as persons and we drifted apart. But we remain good friends. As of now, I’m unattached.”
