ALWYN UYTINGCO gets raves for his title-role portrayal of the gay Rocky Ponciano in “Beki Boxer” but he now plays another gay role in “JasMine”, whose airing has been temporarily suspended.
“Sa susunod, babae na po ang magiging role ko, hindi bading lang,” he jokes. “Bale napapanood na ako talaga everyday sa TV5 kasi Monday to Friday, nasa primetime ako on ‘Beki Boxer’, then on Saturday nights, I’m in the gag show ‘Tropa Mo Ko Unli’ with Ogie Alcasid and now, Sunday nights at 9 PM, nasa ‘JasMine’ ako.”
How is his gay role in “JasMine” different to that of his role in “Beki Boxer”? “Sa ‘Beki Boxer’ kasi, nasa closet pa ko, tinatago ko, but dito sa ‘JasMine’, mas out ang pagkabading ko as a gay blogger who helps Jasmine Curtis Smith in her career. The thing is, parehong maganda ‘yong dalawang gay roles dahil sobrang magkaiba sila and it’s really a very big challenge for me. Sa ‘Beki Boxer’, very physical kasi ang nagiging mga kalaban ko sa ring, professional boxers sila. Kundi nila aalalayan ang mga suntok nila sa’kin, baka kung anon a ang nangyari sa’kin kaya kinakabahan ako. Sa ‘JasMine’, techie naman ako as a blogger who protects Jasmine from her haters and bashers sa social media. Maganda ang show kasi combination ng suspense at drama. At magaling si Jasmine Curtis Smith kaya she really deserves to have this solo show."
About his personal life, Jennica Garcia continues to inspire him off cam. “Four years na kami. At masaya naman kasi kaming dalawa, parehong nag-i-effort na mapatatag ‘yong relationship.”
Have they talked about settling down? “Yes, but both of us believe na dapat, 'Paghahandaan natin.' Pero matagal pa, hindi pa nga ako nagpo-propose, e. Mas magandang we prepare for our future muna.”
