“I’m celebrating my 35th anniversary this year,” says the Pop Diva. “I came to Manila to be part of Music and Magic and later launched a solo career with ‘Dito Ba?’ that was the theme song in the Vilma Santos’ ‘Miss X’.”
Her last albums were “K” (2007, a tribute to Kundiman) and “Fragrance of Worship” (2011, which is how she found Jesus Christ). She produced both of them. In “Memories”, Kuh pays tribute to the songs of Cecille Azarcon. “I love the songs of Cecille as they speak about the joys and pains of love. I hope you’ll fall in love again when you hear these songs that are given new arrangements. It’s more acoustic, which is how I wanted it, kaya mas magitara ang areglo.”
The songs are “I Think I’m in Love”, “One More Try”, “So It’s You”, “Special Memory”, “Huwag Kang Mangako”, “How Did You Know” and “Hello”. All the minus ones of these songs are also in the CD so you can sing along with them. After this, she plans to release a romantic album of songs which has the word “Ikaw” in their titles, in time for Valentine’s Day. How is her daughter, Isabella?
“She’s doing fine. She’s a worship leader in our church, the CCF, which she enjoys. She’ll be doing a new album and is now writing songs.”
How come she’s a late bloomer in acting? She acted in films like “Tinimbang ang Langit” and “The Year of Living Dangerously” in the early 80s and it’s only recently that she acted again on TV. “There were offers then but I felt, hindi naman ako kinakapos ng pera sa singing, so kakanta na lang ako. Ayoko ng mga puyatan noon. But I took up acting lessons when I was in the States and I enjoy acting now. When I have a taping, I sleep early, naka-adjust na ko sa puyatan and all the waiting. After ‘My Husband’s Lover’, nag-pray ako, I said I wanted to rest muna. I went into painting. Now, after five months, ‘My Destiny’ came and I’m glad to be reunited with Tom as my son and also Carla Abellana. I’ll also be working with Rhian Ramos and Lorna Tolentino, who plays the mom of Carla and Rhian.”
