WE thought Mother Lily Monteverde will be joining the Metro-Manila Filmfest anew with “Shake, Rattle & Roll 15”. But the published list of the 13 entries submitted to the filmfest screening committee does not have Regal Entertainment’s new “Shake” movie in it. Also missing is the movie of perennial topgrosser Vic Sotto which will pair him anew with Ryzza Mae Dizon, "Big Bossing Adventures".
Here are the listed entries: Double Tap Films “Bonggagster” starring BB Gandanghari and directed by Val Iglesias.
Ten 17 Production’s “Kid Kulafu” starring Cesar Montano and Assunta de Rossi directed by Paul Soriano.
Reality Entertainment/GMA Films and Agosto Dos Pictures “Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2″ starring Dingdong Dantes, Isabelle Daza, directed by Erik Matti. ATC Motion Pictures “Above the Clouds” starring Ruru Madrid and Pepe Smith directed by Pepe Diokno. This has already completed filming in Baguio.
Philippians Productions “Bonifacio” starring Robin Padilla and Iza Calzado, directed by Lawrence Williams.
Quento Media and Deus Lux Mea “Whistle-Blower” starring Nora Aunor and Cherry Pie Picache directed by Adolf Alix. This has also been filmed as an indie flick.
T-Rex Entertainment’s “Kung Ang Hanap Mo Ay Ligaya sa Buhay” starring Boots Anson-Roa and Ronnie Liang directed by Elwood Perez.
Scenema Concept “Magnum Muslim .357″ starring ER Ejercito directed by Jun Posadas.
ABS-CBN Productions and Viva Films’ “Praybeyt Benjamin 2″ starring Vice Ganda and Richard Yap directed by Wenn Deramas.
ABS-CBN Productions “Feng Shui 2″ starring Kris Aquino and Coco Martin directed by Chito Roño.
Only 8 entries will be chosen as finalists. We all know the annual Metro filmfest is not really a festival for high quality films but a film fiesta where to make money at the box office is the primary consideration. So, for sure, the movies with name stars who have proven to be box office draws will be given priority. As such, those who’ll certainly make it are “Feng Shui 2” with Kris Aquino, ABS-CBN’s “Private Benjamin 2” with Vice Ganda, Reality’s “Aswang Chronicles 2” with Dingdong Dantes, “Bonifacio” with Robin Padilla. If Vic Sotto and Regal would join, then, for sure, their movies will be accepted.
Other films with familiar names that might also make it are “Kid Kulafu” with Cesar Montano, “Whistle Blower” with Nora Aunor, and Scenema Concept’s “Muslim Magnum” starring ex-Gov. ER Ejercito. The remaining entries have a poor chance of making it as they lack star power.
