DANIEL PADILLA is billed ahead in his love team with Kathryn Bernardo. This is unusual in local showbiz, where the female is always ahead of the male partner, as in Guy and Pip, Vi and Bot/Boyet, Nida-Nesto, Gloria-Luis, Sharon and Gabby, Maricel and William. But this is understandable because there’s no doubt that between Daniel and Kathryn, it’s Daniel who is the more “sikat” member of their love team. And this is not surprising because Daniel is just oozing with star quality and charisma, just like his Uncle Robin during Binoy’s younger days. We don’t doubt that Daniel will be like John Lloyd Cruz, who can be paired with any female star and still come up with a hit movie.
Daniel and Kath have a new romantic film to be shown on Jully 16, “She’s Dating the Gangster”, based on Bianca Bernardino’s hist Filipino novel that’s a hit online in Wattpad with 600,000 readers and sold 70,000 copies on paperback. How is this different from the first 3 films they did, “24/7 in Love”, “Must Be Love” and “Pagpag”?
“Ito na ang pinaka-mature na nagawa namin ni Kathryn,” says Daniel. “Yung mga una, pa-cute mostly, tapos ‘Pagpag’ is horror. Ngayon lang ako umeffort nang husto in a movie and I’m so proud of it. I learned so much from our director, Cathy Molina. Bale we play two roles in two stories from the past and the present that are intertwined. Ako si Kenji at si Ken while Kat is Athena and Kelay. The movie’s message is that true love surpasses the test of time.”
Also at the presscon are the young stars who support Daniel and Kath. Igiboy Flores, Alexander Diaz, John Uy and Marco Gumabao are the gangster friends of Daniel. Yana Asistio (sister of Ynna) is the only girl gangster and twin sister of Alexander Diaz. Khalil Ramos is Daniel’s rival over Kat. Pamu Pamorada is Kat’s best friend and Abigail Quezon is the ex-girlfriend of Daniel. The movie was shot on location in Bicol, which is an integral part of the story.
This opens in theatres on July 16.
