DIRECTOR GB SAMPEDRO’S “Separados” is the most star-studded Cinemalaya entry. Direk GB himself conceived of the story in 2006 after his own marriage broke up in 2005. Eric Ramos wrote the full script. This is his second film after the 2010 Cinemalaya entry, “Astig”.
“Separados” is about six men separated from their wives, it stars Alfred Vargas, Jason Abalos, Ricky Davao, Anjo Yllana, Erik Santos and Victor Neri. Alfred has an unfaithful wife, Diana Zubiri.
Jason Abalos has a drug-addicted wife, Althea Vega. Ricky Davao is married to Melissa Mendez who thinks he’s having an affair with Patricia Javier, but their daughter, Ritz Azul, discovers his secret, that he’s actually a closet queen.
Anjo Yllana is a balikbayan OFW who has lost touch with his wife, Sharmaine Arnaiz. Erik Santos is the battered husband of Iwa Moto who finds a new romance in Kaye Rivera. Victor Neri is a food blogger who has sexual incompatibility with wife Angel Jacob. All of them converge together on the wedding of Ritz Azul.
“Separados” is the comeback flick of Victor Neri and Patricia Javier, who both stayed abroad for some time. It’s also to the debut flick of Ritz Azul, Erik Santos and Kaye Rivera. This is Ricky Davao’s third gay role where he does a kissing scene with a co-actor. The first was with Christopher de Leon in “American Adobo”, then with Allan Paule in “Lalake sa Buhay ni Selya.” In “Separados”, he kisses Jason Abalos, who played his son before in “Endo” and “Vietnam Rose”.
Despite the huge cast and its many stories, it took only seven days to finish shooting the film. “I’m amazed at the efficient style of directing ni GB Sampedro,” says Ricky. “May sistema, kaya mabilis. Add to that the fact that he’s working with a great cast and staff.”
The movie boasts of having its own Original Sound Track (OST) album. It contains the original music score used in the film plus the original songs composed for the movie, “Pangarap na Ikaw” and “Isang Araw”, both collaborated on by GB Sampedro and singer-songwriter Lara Maigue. Erik Santos sing “Pangarap na Ikaw” while “Isang Araw” is sung by Jaya. “Separados” will have two gala screenings. First is Fairview Terraces on August 2, Saturday, at 6 PM, then at the CCP on August 3, Sunday, at 9 PM. Don’t miss it.
