MELISSA MENDEZ turned Golden Girl yesterday, July 27. We remember meeting her for the first time in 1983 at the old GASI office in Cubao. Ces Evangelista was her professor in FEU who took her at the Movie Flash office for a pictorial and she was launched as the late Rudy Fernandez’ leading lady in “Sumuko Ka, Ronquillo”. We were there when she celebrated her first showbiz birthday party at their apartment in Proj. 7.
Now, 31 years have quickly passed and she has experienced many relationships and is now a grandma to a one-year old baby girl, Danielle. Since “Separados” is about separations, which among her past relationships hurt her the most? “Lahat naman, masakit, but the most painful was with Raymond Keanu kasi I was trying to pull him up, but he was trying to pull me down. Masakit din yung kay JC Castro, kasi niloko niya ako. He announced to the world that he’ll marry at tuwang-tuwa ako kasi siempre, gusto kong mapakasalan ako. Yun pala, tatakbo lang siyang konsehal at pinagastos lang ako. But he’s now a pastor. Sa husband ko ngayon, three years na kami at maganda naman ang pagsasama namin.”
She loves her role in “Separados”. “Madrama siya akala ko, ang kabit ng asawa kong si Ricky Davao, yung friend niyang si Patricia Javier, pero kapwa pala niya lalaki. Ang sakit-sakit noon. Nangyari rin yan sa’kin in real life. Inaway-away noong baklang manager ng kasama ko kasi sila pala talaga ang may relasyon.”
Happy birthday, Melissa!
