RICHARD GUTIERREZ is all smiles after the preview of “Overtime” at the Podium last Monday. He played a very dark character and he’s able to pull it off quite believably. He’s optimistic viewers will support it when it opens today in theatres nationwide. What local viewers will appreciate about it is the liberal touches of humor provided by Mitch Valdes, Bearwin Meily and Roadfill of Moymoy Palaboy. Mitch is funny as a retired asthmatic policewoman who discovers that Richard has kidnapped Renz Valerio, brother of Lauren Young. She tried to help Renz, but with laughable results. Bearwin is a computer expert who tries to help Lauren after Richard puts a bomb on her while Roadfill tries to help Mitch in helping Renz, all with hilarious consequences.
At the press preview held at Podium, Richard’s special someone, Sarah Lahbati, was there to support him, along with his parents Eddie Gutierrez and Annabelle Rama, and siblings Ruffa and Raymond Gutierrez. Also present was Miss World Megan Young, who’s the elder sister of Lauren.
So what is Richard’s plan after “Overtime”? Is it true he’s doing a film with Star Cinema and also moving to TV5? “Nothing definite. I’m a free lancer. May offer ang Star but I still have one movie to do in my contract with GMA Films.”
What’s sure is that he’ll continue to be a good dad to Baby Zion. He was right beside Sarah when she delivered their son in Geneva on April 29. He even cut Zion’s umbilical cord. “As of now, expert na ko in changing diapers,” he grins. “He has really given me a different direction in life. Tigil na ang night outs. I’ve opened a bank account for him. May feelers for him to do commercials but Sarah and I still have to talk about it.”
