RICKY DAVAO IS elated that the new afternoon show he’s directing on GMA-7, “Dading”, is well accepted by viewers and is rating very well. “Credit should go to the cast, lalo na kay Geoff Eigenmann dahil ang husay-husay niya in the title role,” he says. “When we started doing this, sabi ko, matanggap kaya ng mga manonood ang isang bidang nagladlad na bading. But now, there are no more doubts kasi very endearing ang character ni Gabby as Carding, ang ex-boyfriend ni Glaiza de Castro na kumalas dito dahil he realized he’s gay at ngayon, siyang nagtataguyod dito at sa anak nito sa pagkadalaga.”
Ricky is busy not only as a director but also as an actor. He has no less than three new movies, all entries in the coming Cinemalaya indie filmfest that starts showing at the CCP and Ayala Cinemas on August 1. He plays the lead actor as an aging father with issues to settle with his daughter, Mylene Dizon, in Milo Sogueco’s “Marquina”. He’s also one of the leads in Director GB Sampedro’s “Separados” as the closet queen husband of Melissa Mendez who splits from her and hooks up with a younger man, Jason Abalos. In “The Janitor”, directed by Mike Tuviera, he plays a major supporting as the general who manipulates his men, Richard Gomez and Dennis Roldan. It’s said he might win an acting award for any of the roles that he’s playing in these three movies.
“Naku, ayokong mag-expect,” he says. “Basta kung sakaling magkakatotoo, bonus na lang ‘yun. I’m just enjoying myself and learning a lot from working with our younger filmmakers na puro mahuhusay at sobra ang passion sa craft nila. Bilib ako.”
