Why Heart Evangelista Agreed To Be In 'Trophy Wife' Even If It's Cristine Reyes Who Plays The Title Role

AT LONG LAST, after more than one year in the making, Viva’s new sex drama, “Trophy Wife”, is finally in the can to be shown on July 30. When it started shooting early last year, it was being helmed by Elwood Perez but they changed directors in midstream. Andoy Ranay reshot most of the film, nearly doubling the film’s budget because all the previous footage was thrown away.

“It’s management’s decision to replace our director,” says lead actor Derek Ramsay. “Siguro hindi na-meet ang standards ng Viva. It’s a privilege to have worked with our previous director, but labas na kaming mga artista sa naging decision ng Viva. We do want to thank Direk Andoy Ranay for taking over on a project that has been started by someone else. It’s not easy to do that.”

Derek is back with Cristine Reyes in “Trophy Wife” after their previous hit, “No Other Woman”, where they played husband and wife. This time, Cristine as Lani is the wife of John Estrada as Sammy, who happens to be the elder brother of Derek as Chino. What John doesn’t know is that Cristine earlier had an affair with his brother and, as a matter of fact, she still has the hots for Derek. She now plays a dangerous game in trying to get Derek back even if he’s already hitched to Heart Evangelista as Gwen.

It’s good Heart accepted the project even if it’s Cristine who plays the title role of the “Trophy Wife”? “May magandang twist sa role ko,” she says. “Abangan ninyo. In the trailer’s last scene, Cristine tells me, ‘Di ba isang taon nating plinano ito?’ Kung ano yung plinano namin, malalaman nyo when you watch the movie.”
