Anne Curtis Being Fat For Her Role As Zoe In 'The Gifted' Pays Off

ANNE CURTIS says she’s not going to shy away from sexy films, unlike her co-star in “The Gifted”, Cristine Reyes, who said she’s had enough of going sexy. “Second movie na namin ni Cristine itong ‘The Gifted’ after ‘No Other Woman’ at napakabait niya, masarap katrabaho at walang kaartehan at all. So I respect her decision and it’s good we now have a movie na comedy ang ipapakita namin at di basta pagpapa-sexy,” she says. “Siguro she feels she has already maximized that kind of sexy image, so it’s time for her to try something else na. But as for me, as long as the script is good and my role is challenging enough for me, okay pa rin sa’kin magpa-sexy.”

Someone quipped that she and Cristine will be good in a movie like the French award-winning film, “Blue is the Warmest Color”, which is about lesbianism. “I saw that at grabe yun, pero maganda, very tasteful and classy ang pagkakagawa.”

So is she willing to do something sexy like that? “If the project is really good and also the director, why not? Kaya lang, I doubt if puedeng ipalabas sa atin ang ganoong ka-daring na pelikula. Alam nyo naman, bawal ang R-18 movies sa ibang mall theatres. So bakit ka pa gagawa ng ganun, kung masasayang lang ang pagod mo.”

Also, as a rule, movies about lesbianism don’t make money locally. It’s only movies about “bakla” characters that earn well, and only if it’s a comedy where the gay character is made fun of, like in the comedies of the late Dolphy before. Serious gay films like those of Director Jay Altarejos are done indie style and cater to a special audience, like his award-winning “Kasal”.

Going back to “The Gifted”, Anne said doing her role as the obese Zoe is not easy because she was made to wear a fat suit, thick makeup and layers and layers of clothing. “It’s tough, ha. Dusa siya. We’re shooting it noong summer at sobrang init ng panahon kaya pawis na pawis talaga ako after each shoot. But it paid off, kasi lahat ng nakapanood, kahit sa trailer pa lang, they say ang ganda ng dating at effect ng pagiging mataba ko. At credible daw na mataba talaga ako. Excited na silang lahat at inaabangan nilang mapanood ang full movie.”

“The Gifted” will have its premiere night on Tuesday, September 2, 6PM at Glorietta 4 Cinema 3 and SM Megamall Cinema 9, 8 PM. This afternoon, Sunday, at SM Fairview, 5PM, the cast will do mall show, and later at 7 PM at Glorietta Activity Center. “The Gifted” will be shown abroad on September 12 in Los Angeles (Cerritos Stadium 10, Ontario Place Stadium 18, UA Horton Plaza 14, North Hollywood 8 & Orange Stadium Promenade 25); Washington (Parkway Plaza Stadium 12); Hawaii (Dole Cannery & Stadium 18); Nevada (Village Square Stadium 18 & Century River Park 16 in Oxnard); San Francisco (Milpitas Great Mall 20, 25 Union Landing, Vallejo 14 & Century Laguna 16 Elk Grove); San Diego (UA Horton Plaza 14); Las Vegas (Village Square Stadium 18); Virginia (Military Circle 18); Texas (Legacy 24, Tinseltown USA 290); Florida (Cinemark Festival Bay 20); Hanover Maryland (Cinemark Egyptian 24); and New York (Movie World, Douglaston NY).
