Comedian Marissa Sanchez Proves She Can Be A Serious Singer In New Album Of Mellow Songs

MARISSA SANCHEZ album launch. She’s better known as a comedian (you should see & hear her mimic other singers like Whitney Houston and Sharon Cuneta), but even before she acted and made people laugh on TV and the big screen, Marissa is a singer and she now goes back to her roots with a new solo album, “Slowing it Down”, after 14 years.

“My first album was more of novelty song,” she says. “Yung may double meaning, like the songs ‘Dakota Nota’ and ‘Magbati Na Tayo’. My new album is a legacy album, something I can be proud of maski sa anak ko, si Iana. The title track, ‘Eighteen’, has lyrics that fit the feelings of a mom like me for her daughter. There are ten songs in the album at ako mismo ang pumili sa mga ito. Ibang-iba sila sa image kong nagpapatawa before kasi senti siya. E, yun ang laging request sa’kin, mellow songs, malulungkot para sa mga gustong mag-emote.”

How come she got into comedy when she sings so well? “E kasi nga, mataba ako. So when I do lounge singing, nilalagyan ko ng katatawanan at nag-click naman. But now that I’m married to a great husband, Ian Nava, I’d like to show a different side of me. I was already 42 when I got pregnant and became a mom kaya blessing talaga ang daughter ko, who does a duet with me in the album as we sing ‘You and Me Against the World’. Four songs in the album are original, ‘Panghabangbuhay’ written by Dingdong Avanzado and Jessa Zaragoza, ‘Pag-ibig Ko’y Pansinin’, ‘Dindi’ and ‘Sometimes’. The other cover versions are ‘Kailan Sasabihing Mahal Kita’, ‘Help Me Forget’, ‘It Takes too Long’ and ‘Sunlight’. Kuya Elmer Blancaflor did the musical arrangements and I really want to thank him kasi ang gaganda lumabas. The song ‘Eighteen’ is his original composition.”

Marissa will formally launch her album in a concert, “I Laff U”, on October 29 at Area 05, the former Ratsky. The album notes are written personally by Marissa and she made it like a coffee table booklet.
