KEAN CIPRIANO, the heartthrob vocalist of Callalily has a new ka-love team, the very pretty Eunice Jorge, the lead singer of the band called Gracenote. Universal Records paired them in the new album, “Kean & Eunice, Happy Together, A Trip Down Memory Lane”. They’ve been together for some time now promoting the album and it’s easy to see why Kean is easily smitten by Eunice.
“She’s so talented,” he says. “She plays all sorts of instruments like the piano, the drums, the guitar, the violin. Yung debut album ng Gracenote, she herself wrote most of their songs.”
What do they like the most in each other? “Eunice is just too good to be true but she remains very down to earth. I can stay with her straight for 48 hours just writing songs, jamming and playing around with her. We get along fine because we’re both crazy with music.”
“I like Kean’s being so optimistic,” says Eunice. “Even if you’re faced with bad vibes, kaya niyang baligtarin ang sitwasyon.”
Despite their praises for each other, they say they’re not really on. “Madalas kaming magkasama kaya we’re comfortable with each other, pero hinihintay ko pang ma-develop sa akin ang babaeng ito,” Kean quips. “Kelan ba?”
“I don’t really know,” says Eunice. “Only time will tell. Basta ine-enjoy ko muna ang ginagawa namin and I’m glad it’s with Kean.”
Both of them are rockers but in “Happy Together”, they get to revive memorable classics given with modern arrangements: James Taylor’s “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight”, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s “Islands in the Stream”, Paul McCartney’s “My Love”, Lobo’s “How Can I Tell Her”, Frankie Valli’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”, Lulu’s “To Sir with Love”, The Association’s “Never My Lofe”, Rod Stewart‘s “You’re In My Heart”, Dave Clark Five’s “Because and The Turtles’ “Happy Together”. How did the album come about?
“My titos and titas would always tell me, kumanta ka naman ng old songs,” says Kean. “Eunice and I have the same manager, Darwin Hernandez, and naisip naming gawin itong album which is totally new for us. Most of the songs are handpicked by us. We’re now so glad kasi ang ganda ng feedback.”
The album is now available in record stores nationwide and also digitally on iTunes and Spinnr. On September 19, Friday, they will have a concert, “Happy Together”, at the Music Museum, 8 PM. You can follow them on twitter @keancipriano and @EuniceGracenote.
