ISABELLE DAZA admits she was initially reluctant to join showbiz, but now, after nearly three years of hosting and acting, she says she’s enjoying it very much. “My co-hosts in ‘Eat Bulaga’ are a big help,” she says. “They’re very welcoming and made me feel relaxed right away. Now, friends ko na silang lahat.”
It also helped that she won a best new movie actress award for her very first film, “It Takes a Man and a Woman”, where she played John Lloyd Cruz’ girlfriend while Sarah Geronimo was abroad. She got more acclaim for her role as an activist school teacher in “Lihis”. She’s now in Regal’s latest movie, “Somebody to Love”, where she plays Valeria, a hotelier who’s based in Hongkong. “Whenever I come home to Manila, Matteo Guidicelli and I go to bed. But friends with benefits lang kami. He’s hoping for a relationship but ayoko. Best friend ko rito si Iza Calzado who’s a TV host. First time ko to work with them and with Direk Joey Reyes.”
So how was it? “Matteo and Iza have actually been my friends for quite a time. Lalo na si Matteo, even before we both joined showbiz pa. We have the same circle of friends. Ganun din si Iza, we have common friends, so it’s really nice to have the chance to work with them in a movie. As for Direk Joey, it’s a joy working with him because he’s very smart, he knows exactly what he wants from you, and also very funny. Ang dami niyang stories, jokes sa set. ‘Somebody to Love’ is about several people looking for love and a lot of people can relate with the characters and their situations.”
She herself is no longer looking for “Somebody to Love” as everyone knows she’s been in a relationship with Adidas executive Adrien Semblat for the longest time. Adrien surprised a lot of people when he made his first TV appearance in “Eat Bulaga” recently. “Actually, he didn’t know about it. Sinamahan lang niya ko and five minutes before the show, I told him, you’ll be one of the judges in Super Sireyna and you have to talk on camera, so wala na siyang choice. Very positive ang feedback. Nag-trending siya worldwide. Ako nga, hindi pa nag-trending worldwide.”
How does she herself in the future? “I’ll be doing more hosting. Right now, aside from ‘Eat Bulaga’, I also ‘Taste Buddies’ with Solenn Heussaff, who’s also been a friend from way back. This Saturday at 8:45 PM on GMA News TV, we go to Cebu City to show how Cebuanos are so game and ready in a Fun Run held on a drizzling night, followed by an electro-inspired after-party, with Steven Silva as our guest.”
But she’s also busy acting. “Halos hindi na nga ako natutulog. I’ll appear for three weeks in ‘Nino’ as the lawyer of Angelu de Leon. Aside from ‘Somebody to Love’, I’m shooting two more new movies, a horror film, ‘Mara’, with Paolo Avelino and Jasmine Curtis Smith for Regal, directed by Borgy Torre, who did the acclaimed ‘Kabisera’ of Joel Torre. Then I’m also shooting the Metro filmfest entry, ‘Kubot, Aswang Chronicles’ with Dingdong Dantes.”
