Janno Gibbs Admits He Had Depression Problems Like The Late Robin Williams

JANNO GIBBS was interviewed by Jessica Soho for her show tonight, “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho”, about the late Robin Williams’ taking his own life due to depression. “Alam kasi ni Jessica there was a time when I didn’t work also due to depression kaya ako ang ininterview niya about it,” Janno tells us on the set of his hit GMA 6 PM soap, “My BFF”. “At the time na dumaraan ako sa depression, I denied it. Wala kasi sa culture natin yung you’ll seek professional help dahil sa depression. Sasabihin agad, may tama yan, may sayad yan. Hindi naman ako umabot sa point na gusto kong mag-suicide, but I did seek help and with the support of my parents, my wife and children, I was able to get over it. Inaamin ko ito ngayon as I want to foster awareness that there’s nothing wrong in seeking help when you’re depressed.”

What caused his depression? “Yung sumobrang pagtaba ko. Whenever I see myself on TV, naiisip ko, bakit umabot sa ganito ang hitsura ko? I really didn’t like what I see. Singer ako, kakanta ko ng ballads, tapos ang taba ko. So, hindi na lang ako papasok sa show, kaya naapektuhan ang work ko. Nakadagdag pa yung sleeping problems ko. But unti-unti, pumayat ako. My sleeping problems, mas manageable na. But more than anything else, it’s the love and support of my family which helped me. E, sa States, hindi yata kasing close ang family ties nila like us.”

He’s more known as a comedian, but we notice that in “My BFF”, he’s now doing a lot of drama scenes as Manilyn Reynes’ estranged husband. “Yes, mas comfortable na ako magdrama kasi comfortable na rin ako sa director at sa aming crew.”

How about his singing? Will he be coming up with a new album? “Yes, isang song na lang matatapos na. Kasama lahat ng original songs I composed for teleseryes like ‘Dalawang Mrs. Real’, ‘Kambal Sirena’, ‘Paraiso Ko’y Ikaw’, ‘Dading’ and ‘My BFF’, plus other original songs. I want it to be released sana in time for my 45th birthday on September 16.”

If he’d want to collaborate with another local singer, who will it be? “Si Basil Valdez. I want to write a song for him at sana makanta namin. That will be a dream come true for me.”
