JUDY ANN SANTOS has made a successful transition from acting to hosting. After being host of the “Master Chef” series and “Bet on Your Baby”, she’s now hosting a new reality show, “I Do”, where nine couples contemplating marriage will compete with each other for three months while living inside the “I Do” village in Lancaster New City in Cavite. Three couples each will occupy three different houses, with the guys separated from the ladies. While in this environment, they will be guided by the council composed of Juday, co-host Jayson Gainza, life coach Pia Acevedo and marriage counsellor Dr. Julian Montano. They get to know each other better while performing different tasks and one couple will be eliminated each week.
There’s no doubt that Juday will be a competent member of the council as she herself is happily married. Her five-year marriage to Ryan Agoncillo is one of the most stable among younger couples in showbiz today. Ryan himself, when we talked to him on the set of his sitcom, “Ismol Family”, acknowledges that he’s very fortunate to be married to a good person like Juday.
“The feeling is definitely mutual,” says Juday. “Ako rin naman, I feel so blessed na siya ang napangasawa ko.”
Does she gets tips from Ryan about hosting? “He’s really my energy booster when it comes to hosting kasi siya naman ang mas bihasa. Alam niya kabado ako, takot ako when it comes to hosting. Ang advice niya, to read a lot, na ginawa ko naman and it helps kasi limited ang vocabulary ko before. Sabi rin niya, be confident, listen carefully sa sinasabi ng mga kinakausap mo. Hindi ako nahihiyang magtanong sa kanya and he corrects me kapag mali ang pagkaintindi ko sa English phrases.”
How involved is she in “I Do”? “Very much. Three times a week, I go to the I Do village to interact with the nine couples. Parang Ate ako sa kanila. And aside from my own experiences, I read up a lot about marriage na puede kong i-share sa kanila. And I get so affected sa issues involving them. Nagiging emotional din ako at nadadala ko hanggang sa bahay. Kaya kailangan ko mag-destress kasi kung minsan, kasama ko sila hanggang sa panaginip ko. But Ang sarap maging part ng journey ng couples sa ‘I Do” kasi I also learn a lot from them, lessons that I can apply to myself and my own marriage.”
Next time, we’ll introduce to you her co-counsellors and the nine couple participants in the show that will be aired Saturday after MMK and Sunday after Rated K, starting August 30. The winning couple will win P1 million cash, house and lot, and the dream wedding of their choice.
