MARICAR REYES plays a battered wife in “Somebody to Love” that opens today in theatres nationwide. What’s even worse is that her Chinese husband, David Chua, is also cheating on her and having an affair with a beauty queen, Nathalie Hart. In real life, her husband is also a Chinese, crooner Richard Poon, but he’s totally different from her screen husband as Richard is very caring and supportive.
They celebrated their first wedding anniversary last June 9 and, so far, everything is going on well between them as husband and wife. It helps that although they’re both in showbiz, they’re into different fields as she’s into acting and he’s into singing. A medical doctor by profession, Maricar is now also busy on TV as she plays kontrabida to Bea Alonzo in “Sana Bukas Pa ang Kahapon”.
“I’m happy na magaganda ang roles na napupunta sa akin both on TV and sa big screen,” she says. “In ‘Somebody to Love’, magkapatid kami ni Matteo Guidicelli and mother namin si Jaclyn Jose. Aside from my problem with my husband David, may gap din kami rito ng mother ko. Hindi ko siya kinakausap kasi I blame her dahil iniwan kami ng father ko. Ang hindi ko alam, my mom is actually protecting our dad. He left us because he turned out to be gay at iniwan ang family namin for another man. I enjoyed doing this movie because it gave me the chance to work with Director Joey Reyes, who’s really good kasi ang dami naming iba’t ibang characters sa story and yet he makes them all jell together quite effectively.”
