About Sarah, Matteo admits they have been going steady for quite some time now but it’s only recently that they admitted that they’re on. Why is this so?
“Many reasons,” he says. “It’s my way of respecting her side, Sarah’s side, her family. It’s just something we agreed upon to keep private. I wanted to give full respect to them, so I just kept quiet the whole way.”
He says they became close when they did a concert tour in the U.S. last year where they were together for two weeks. “Crush ko na siya noon pa,” he reveals. “In the States, I got to know her better. Her parents are strict but I understand that they’re just protective of their child. But Sarah is 26. She’s no longer a child and she has become stronger. So, I’m proud of her for all she’s done. She’s standing up for herself. She’s becoming an independent woman and it’s what’s supposed to be. Pinaglaban din niya ako, that’s why I’m very, very proud of her. I was the happiest person in the world when sinagot niya ko nang face to face kami, hindi sa text lang. At first, she told me talaga na she doesn’t like a guy from showbiz. But I told her, ‘Follow your heart. We’re not doing anything wrong. You know we’re loving each other purely and truly.’ She didn’t like to hide it from her parents so after sagutin niya ako, she told them right away. But yun nga, tinago muna namin. Right now, our relationship is still growing, hopefully getting stronger. My family loves Sarah. I love her a lot and I will do whatever it takes to keep her. When we’re together, without the makeup and everything, she’s very simple, very true. Parang I don’t think I can find anybody like this person. So, I believe I don’t want to lose her. I pray every night for everything to go well.”
