NIKKI GIL is getting rave reviews for her performance in the musical “The Last Five Years”, now on its last weekend at RCBC Theatre. The play is about a couple shown falling in and out of love in a span of five years. Nikki is Cathy, an aspiring actress while leading man Joaquin Valdes is Jamie, a struggling writer. We’ve seen Nikki before doing excellent work in such musicals as “Legally Blonde” and “Sweet Charity” and she’s really into the theatre born. Here, she is at her best singing “Still Hurting”.
Too bad for Nikki her stellar talent is not well utilized on film and television. On the big screen, she has yet to star in a good mainstream movie. It’s in indie films that she shines, like in “Red Shoes” with Marvin Agustin and “Badil” with Jhong Hilario. On TV, she plays mostly supporting and villain roles, like in “Mundo Man ay Magunaw” and “Maria Mercedes”. She’s now part of “Hawak Kamay” starring Piolo Pascual and Iza Calzado.
It’s common knowledge she felt bad when she was dumped by Billy Crawford for Colleen Garcia. She says she has since recovered and is now dating a non-showbiz guy. “I’ve definitely moved on and I’m thankful that people don’t ask me about it anymore. Yun naman talaga ang meaning ng closure, yung hindi na inuungkat pang muli. Ibig sabihin, we’ve all gotten past it.”
She’s very much thankful to her deep faith in the Lord.
“Because God is the only one who can restore you back to the original state your heart was in. Isang taon na rin ang lumipas and that’s enough time for me to have healed and okay na ‘yun. ‘Pag iniisip ko nga, parang ang tagal na rin, ang layo na and gano’n talaga ang buhay. You move on from things like this and later on, it will feel like it never happened at all.”
Nikki was vocal then in saying she’d rather not work with Billy again. But what’s this we hear that Billy is about to co-host “ASAP” once again, where Nikki is a regular? Let’s see if Nikki has really let bygones be bygones and is ready to face him again by now.
