Ogie Alcasid's Reaction To Pres. Pnoy's Mentioning His Name In The SONA

OGIE ALCASID is turning 47 on August 27 and he’ll have a birthday concert, “Throwback Thursday with Mr. A”, at Music Museum on August 28. He’ll sing a lot of old songs, especially from the 80s, with no less than Maestro Ryan C as musical director. Part of the proceeds will go the My OPM Playlist exhibition of OPM (Organisasyong ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit) songs from the playlists of selected and influential Filipinos. There’ll be many guests from the 80s but the one who Ogie wants to be there is Joanne Lorenzana because he started his singing career as a backup singer for her. It’ll be nostalgic as he’ll sing “Growing Up” from “Bagets”, his first two hits “Peksman” and “Ako’y Iyong-Iyo”, plus lots of songs from Culture Club, Naked Eyes and Duran Duran. He’ll also pay tribute to the late Francis M.

Ogie was surprised when Pres. Pnoy thanked him for his cooperation with his administration without asking for anything in return. “Hindi ko napanood kasi I was in a meeting with my wife and our architect,” he says. “Nagulat na lang ako as people were congratulating me.”

He’s aware Pnoy is getting a lot of criticism but he continues to support the president. One thing he doesn’t agree with is Kris Aquino running for public office. “She’s not ready. I would rather have someone with a long political experience and administrative career. I agree that she’s extremely popular and her intentions are good, mayaman naman ’yon, hindi siya magnanakaw, pero kailangan pa rin ng political experience.”

He like Grace Poe more. “I like Grace Poe. Nakasama at nakatrabaho ko na siya several times and she’s good. I will endorse Grace Poe.”

He now has two shows with TV5, “Tropa Mo Ko” and “Let’s Ask Pilipinas”. How are they doing? “They’re both okay. ‘Tropa Mo Ko’ is now titled ‘Tropa Mo Ko, Nice Di Ba’. I really enjoy doing it with the young stars and comedians of TV5. As for ‘Let’s Ask Pilipinas’, okay naman ang response ng viewers but we need more push kasi di pa alam ng maraming tao na may ganyan palang show sa umaga.”

Does he somehow regret moving to TV5? “No, as I enjoy the challenge of helping the network to get more audience shares. All my creatives juices are working. Happy ako, at yun siguro ang isang reason why they say I don’t look my age, kasi tawa lang ako ng tawa.”
