THE HIT INSPIRATIONAL drama “Nino” is ending tomorrow and it’ll be replaced on Monday by “Strawberry Lane”, launched at Imperial Palace last Tuesday. "Nino" will have a heartbreaking episode tonight with the death of Katrina Halili as Hannah who was hit by a car driven by Jay Manalo as Lucio. Don't miss its uplifting ending. Meantime, the cast of "Strawberry Lane" is big, headed by two seasoned actresses, Boots Anson Roa and Chanda Romero, who are both newly married. At 69, Boots, a widow, married Atty. King Rodrigo, while Chanda married balikbayan Jose Mari Alejandro. So how’s life for the newlyweds?
“I thank God for giving me a second chance with my relationship with Atty. King,” says Boots. “At 69, nakaranas pa ako ng ikalawang Gloria. Ang dream namin is to have our own junior pero alam ko ilusyon na lang yun.”
“At 59, I got married for the first time so, never say never,” says Chanda. “It’s great and it’s getting even better.”
Their young co-stars in “Strawberry Lane” are four pretty, talented girls: Bea Binene, Kim Rodriguez, Joyce Ching and Joanna Marie Tan, playing four young women in pursuit of their own respective dreams and place in the sun. In 1975, we remember Boots and Chanda in a movie like this about four young women, along with Rosanna Ortiz and Alona Alegre, “Mga Uhaw na Bulaklak”, which became controversial because the then Board of Censors later withdrew it. What advice can now Boots and Chanda give to the pretty young lasses they’re working with in “Strawberry Lane”?
“It’s nice to be in love and to be loved, pero sana ilagay nila sa lugar at huwag nilang gawing priority ang love over their own family and their career,” says Boots.
“Enjoy their youth,” says Chanda. “Take your time, enjoy life. Don’t rush into a relationship just for the sake of having a relationship.”
Also in the cast of “Strawberry Lane” are Sheryl Cruz, Sunshine Dizon, Christian Bautista, Jake Vargas, Jeric Gonzales, Rita de Guzman and Kiko Estrada. Directed by Don Michael Perez, the movie is a tribute to Sharon Cuneta as the names of the characters are taken from Sharon films like Lavinia and Dorina from “Bituing Walang Ningning”, Lupe from “Pasan Ko ang Daigdig”, Jack from “Jack and Jill”, and characters like Gabo and Richard.
