JASMINE CURTIS SMITH and Sam Concepcion are happy that a lot of viewers are following their story “My Tag Boyfriend” on TV5’s new show, “Wattpad Presents”, shown at 7 PM weeknights. But TV5 wants to clear up that “Wattpad Presents” does not air a new episode each night, just like what some press people who attended their presscon, but didn’t understand it, wrote. One story is serialized for an entire week, like a mini series, and not just for one night. This week, the story that is being aired is “My Tag Boyfriend”, starring the real life sweethearts Jasmine and Sam.
TV5 has inked a deal with Wattpad, the world’s largest community of readers and writers, to air some of its most popular stories via the upcoming weeknight primetime mini-series. Present in the contract signing are (L-R) TV5 Chief Financial Officer Anna Bengzon, TV5 CEO Emmanuel C. Lorenzana and Wattpad CEO and Co-Founder Allen Lau. Wattpad started in 2006 and has established a dynamic and interactive community of readers and writers from around the world. It has a community of 35 million readers, 5 million of which are Philippine users who spent close to one billion minutes immersed in Wattpad’s free stories in the previous month alone. Wattpad has become so popular in the country that a number of budding Filipino writers have grown their own fan-base of readers, while some of their stories have already been bought by major film outfits and have become blockbuster hits.
With “Wattpad Presents” being developed by TV5, followers of popular Wattpad stories as well as viewers who are fond of watching “kilig” love stories will be treated to week-long TV adaptations to be top-billed by the Kapatid Network’s stable of talents.
Other stories you should watch out for in the coming weeks are “Mr. Popular Meets Ms. Nobody” with Mark Neumann and Shaira Mae de la Cruz starting on September 29 up to October 3 “Poser” starring Chanel Morales and Akihiro Blanco from October 6 to 10 and “Almost a Cinderella” with Eula Caballero and Carl Guevarra from October 13 to 17.
Here’s hoping that this new TV5 project will click with audiences so that it will give more jobs and be a regular outlet for their own contract stars.
