ANGELICA PANGANIBAN can have a sigh of relief now that her ex-BF, Derek Ramsay, and his ex-wife, Cristine Jolly, have patched things up in court. It’ll be recalled that Cristine also filed a case of concubinage against Angelica for living in with Derek, but that’s now pointless since she has settled things amicably with Derek last Friday.
Angelica is aware that she has gained weight and people are making fun of her because of it. And in her new movie, “Beauty in a Bottle” that opens today in theatres nationwide, she plays the same kind of role. As a movie star named Estelle (Angelica), she is being bashed online for being fat. Her career is on the line and to cope with the demands of showbiz, she promises do everything to get back in shape.
“Naka-relate ako sa role and I enjoyed it kasi while doing it, nakita ko talaga kung gaano ako kataba,” she says.
Though she’s better known as a drama actress in the movies, on TV, she’s acknowledged as a good comedian for her comic portrayals in “Banana Nite”. Which is more comfortable for her to do: drama or comedy? “I’ve been doing drama ever since I started my career in 1993 as a child star so sanay na ako rito. Mas mahirap mag-comedy kasi in drama, you only have to work with your emotions but in comedy, dapat gamitin mo ang utak mo to be funny and witty at the same time. Buti na lang talaga at naging malaking workshop para sa akin ang ‘Banana Nite’ to train in comedy.”
How does she feel when bashers make fun of her excess weight? “Of course, I get hurt sometimes but I don’t let if affect me totally. Choice ko naman whatever I want to do, like if I want to eat or not, or I want to wear make-up or not. At kung di mo ako gusto, hindi rin naman kita gusto so okay lang.”
