Award-Winning Cinemalaya Entry 'The Janitor' To Be Released In Commercial Theatres By Star Cinema On October 8

WE’RE GLAD STAR Cinema is releasing the award-winning Cinemalaya entry, “The Janitor”, in commercial theatres on October 8. Mike Tuviera rightfully won best director for this slambang action-drama while Nicco Manalo who played the tortured police informer in the story won best supporting actor. Dennis Trillo delivers a solid portrayal of “The Janitor”, a suspended cop who is tasked to clean up the act of some scalawag cops involved in a brutal bank robbery where ten people were killed.

Everyone who saw the movie in its Cinemalaya run couldn’t believe it was filmed for only 8 days. We heard it didn’t win best pic as it looks more like a mainstream movie, but we’re sure come next year’s award derbies, it has a big chance of bagging a best film prize. Everyone gives a great performance: LJ Reyes as Dennis’ pregnant wife, Dante Rivero as Dennis’ oppressive father, Irma Adlawan as Dennis’ invalid mom, Ricky Davao as a shady general, Richard Gomez as Dennis’ immediate superior, Derek Ramsay, Raymond Bagatsing, Alex Medina and Jerald Napoles as the bank robbers and Sunshine Garcia as a club dancer who’s Derek’s girl and who is the key in revealing to Dennis the truth about the crimes he has done.

The action scenes staging the showdown between Dennis and Alex in a cornfield, Dennis and Raymond in an elevator and Dennis and Derek in an abandoned building are all expertly and thrillingly staged. These exciting sequences alone are already worth the price of admission.
