INIGO PASCUAL makes his movie debut in the teen rom-com, “Relaks, It’s Just Pag-ibig”, co-directed by Antoinette Jadaone with Irene Villamor. Jadaone also directed the currently showing “Beauty in a Bottle” starring Angelica Panganiban and the Cinema One entry that opens on November 9, “This Thing Called Tadhana” again starring Angelica, with the comebacking JM de Guzman. Inigo’s dad, Piolo P, once said he won’t allow his son to join showbiz until after he’s finished with his studies. But now, aside from “Relaks”, he’s also doing another movie for Viva, “Para sa Hopeless Romantic”, with Julia Barretto. So what happened?
“I did ‘Relaks’ last year while I was on vacation from school,” he says. “The offer of Viva came from nowhere. I’ll still continue with my studies. I’m now on home schooling online.”
What about the offer for him to join a boyband in the U.S.? “It’s still under negotiation.”
Does he feel pressure being the son of Piolo? “Yes, may pressure. I guess it cannot be helped that I’d be compared with him as he’s my dad, but he’s very supportive. He pushes me and motivates me to do well now that I’m here in showbiz. Ako naman, I’ll just work very hard to show my own stuff and prove myself.”
What’s the difference between them? “I’m more into music and he’s more into acting. I started with singing. Magkaiba rin ang singing styles namin.”
In “Relaks, It’s Just Pag-ibig”, he plays Josh, a rich teen who is stalked by a girl madly in love with him, Erica Villonco as Cupcake. But he later figures in a love triangle with Sofia Andres as Sari and Julian Estrada as Kiko. Direk Jadaone says the story is like a road movie that starts in Manila and ends on a beach in Samar. “Sari finds an old letter from a guy named Elias who believes you’d find your true love under a blue moon,” she says. “So she travels from Manila to look for Elias and for her own true love. First, she’s with Kiko but he disappears and she meets Josh, then Kiko comes back and the two fight for her.”
We ask Inigo how is it working with his co-actors? “It’s fun. We’re of the same age and we quickly became good friends while shooting. Parang nagpa-party lang kami sa set. I learned a lot from the experience of doing this movie.”
Has he experienced true love? “No, never. And I’m not in a hurry since I’m only 17. I’m still young so marami pang ibang puedeng gawin, kami ng co-stars ko. Kaya nga bagay sa amin, ang title ng movie, ‘Relaks, It’s Just Pag-ibig’, which means you shouldn’t hurry love.”
