KIKO MATOS played the lead role of an Indian prince with Solenn Heussaff in “Mumbai Love”, shown early this year. He’s now paired with Krista Miller in the Sineng Pambansa Horror filmfest entry, “Hukluban”, that opens tomorrow as part of Sineng Pambansa Horror Filmfest.
“Big challenge po ang movie for me kasi I play three different roles,” he says. “Sa unang story in 1948, I play Pepito, a failed boxer na gustong magpakamatay. Sa 1974 episode, I play Kandro, a mysterious character na hindi mo malaman kung rebel ba o soldier. In both stories, tinulungan ako ni Krista who plays Mira, a woman na bata sa gabi at matandang hukluban kung araw. Sa episode set in the present, I play a photographer na makakakita kay Krista habang naliligo sa ilog and I presume na isa siyang diwata.”
He did nude love scenes with Krista. Didn’t he have any second thoughts about it? “Hindi, kasi when I took the audition, everything was explained to me and Krista by Direk Gil Portes. Hubo’t hubad daw talaga. Sa’kin naman, I’m of the right age at 24 at nagwo-work out naman ako, so wala naman akong ikahihiya sa katawan ko kaya, go. Napasubo nga ako kasi palaban si Krista. Pareho kaming game, no reservations. Binigay na namin talaga ang lahat-lahat. Okay lang naman kasi when we saw the movie sa preview, maganda ang execution ni Direk Gil. Hindi basta kalaswaan lang.”
Did he get attracted to Krista? “I’d be lying if I said no. But sa shooting, ang hinihinging eksena sa amin, gusto ni Direk na physically and emotionally involved talaga kami sa isa’t isa so yun ang binigay namin.”
Is he aware that Krista became controversial after she was linked to Cesar Montano? “Ay, never kong binanggit yun sa kanya. Hindi ako nagtanong. Wala naman ako sa position para kuwestiyunin siya, o ang pagkatao niya. Basta tinanggap ko siya bilang kapareha ko.”
His ultimate dream is to be able to do mainstream work even on TV. “Idol ko si Coco Martin. Nag-start sa indie films pero ngayon, kilalang-kilala na kahit sa mainstream.”
