Martin Nievera Off To The U.S. For A Series Of Shows & To Attend Son Santino's 8th Birthday Party

MARTIN NIEVERA left last Wednesday for a series of shows in the U.S. so PolyEast held a presscon before he left to promote his new album, “Big Mouth, Big Band”, that is coming out while he’s away. His son Santino is turning 8 and will have a birthday party on October 4 so he’s going to that first in Las Vegas. Then he’ll join the ASAP concert on October 11, do shows at the Suncoast Casino in Las Vegas on October 18 and 19, at the Chicago Wyndham Hotel on October 24. On October 26 he’s back in California, October 31 at Chamush Casino in Sta. Inez and he’ll be in Miami on November 8. He’ll be back in Manila on November 13 to join Pilita Corrales’ concert at the Manila Hotel. “I have to be with Tita Pilita as she discovered me in the U.S. and brought me to Manila,” he says. “I owe her my career.”

Ex-wife Pops Fernandez is getting him to be a guest in Toni Gonzaga’s “Celestine” concert at the MOA on October 3. “Ni-request din ni Toni, but I told her it’s my son’s birthday. So who do I choose: you or my son? And she said, Oh my God, go! It’s your son! But I’m going to have a show with Pops at the PICC in December, ‘Penthouse Club’ Reunion’, with all the performers who started in our show then, like Donya Buding, Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid and many more. This will be in December in time for her birthday.”

Meantime, Martin collaborates in his new album with Marvin Querido as musical director to pay tribute to the hit bands of the 80s and 90s. Its 12 songs are Earth Wind & Fire’s “Sing a Song” and “Every Now and Then”, Kansas’ “Dust in the Wind”, Blue Suede’s “Hooked on a Feeling”, Doobie Brothers’ “What a Fool Believes”, Chicago’s “Will You Still Love Me”, Boz Scaggs’ “You Can Have Me Anytime”, Queen’s “Love of My Life”, Simply Red’s “Stars”, Eagle’s “I Can’t Tell You Why”, Ambrosia’s “Biggest Part of Me” and Toto’s “I Won’t Hold You Back”. We’ve listened to his versions of these songs and Martin does a very refreshing and commendable take on each of them, showing his deep love for music and his craft. This is his 26th album with PolyEast and it will be released in November. Watch out for it.
