New Teen Star Liza Soberano On The Possibility Of Being In Love With Enrique Gil While They're Taping 'Forevermore'

THE FIRST TIME we saw her at the launch of Star Magic’s newest teen stars last year, we already predicted that Liza Soberano has a big potential to hit it big. Star quality is written all over her. And we were proven right when we saw her on the big screen with Enrique Gil in “She’s the One” and on TV in “Got to Believe”.

Now, ABS-CBN is launching to full stardom, again with Enrique, in “Forevermore”, the title of an old Jericho-Kristine movie set in a mango farm. No, the TV version is not a remake of the movie. They only got the title. To begin with, the TV show is set in a strawberry farm in La Trinidad, Benguet.

Liza’s full name is Hope Elizabeth Soberano. She was born on January 4, 1998 in Sta. Clara, California, with a Pinoy dad and an American mom. She has a younger brother who is also movie star material, but he’s not interested in showbiz. Their parents separated and now have new families of their own. Liza moved to Manila when she was in grade 4, raised by her grandparents. A talent scout saw her when she was 13 and introduced her to Ogie Diaz, who’s now co-managing her with Star Magic. She was quickly cast doing small roles in “Wansapanataym” and “MMK” in 2012. She was given a bigger role in “Luv U”, “Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo” and her first movie was “Must Be Love” with Kathniel love team.

She finished high school at St. Patrick’s Quezon City but she’s on leave now from school as she’s so busy with big assignments. Now, aside from “Forevermore”, she and Enrique Gil are being launched in their own movie, “The Bet”, based on a popular online novel, directed by Ted Boborol, who’s also co-directing “Forevermore” with hitmaker Cathy Molina. When she first came to Manila, she can’t speak Tagalog at all. It took her three years to learn it and she now speaks it like a native.

“I’m so grateful to ABS-CBN for giving me such wonderful breaks on TV and the movies,” she says. “Nakaka-pressure but I’m really doing my best para hindi ako mapahiya sa kanila.”

“Forevermore” is a story of first love about two different people. Enrique plays a rich spoiled boy, Xander, whose parents, Zoren Legaspi and the comebacking Lilet, are hotel magnates. Liza is a poor strawberry picker, Agnes, whose parents, Joey Marquez and Almira Muhlach, are farmers. They meet when the drunken Xander goes skydiving and his parachute lands on the strawberry farm where Agnes works. To teach him a lesson, his parents force Xander to pay for the damages by working on the farm where Agnes becomes his guide. This is how love blooms between them.

She has said Enrique is really her crush. Does she romance blooming between them?

"That's too early to tell kasi we're still getting to know each other," she says. "Bahala na pag tumagal na ang taping."
