Christian Bautista's New Album, 'Soundtrack', Has All The Makings Of A Sure Winner

CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA is reported to be dissatisfied with his move from ABS-CBN to GMA-7. How true? “Not true,” he says at the launch of his new album from Universal Records, “Soundtrack”. “I’m very thankful nga to GMA because I have three regular shows right now. I co-host ‘Marian’ with Marian Rivera on Saturday nights. I do ‘Sunday All Stars’ on Sunday afternoon. And I’m in the drama series, ‘Strawberry Lane’, Monday to Friday. So napapanood nga ako sa TV all days of the week kaya bakit ako magrereklamo?”

“Soundtrack” is a sure winner as it has great selections, all songs sung from romantic films. The first single is “Up Where We Belong” from the 1982 Richard Gere movie, “An Officer and a Gentleman”. This is now being used as the theme song of the hit Koreanovela, “Empress Ki”.

“This album is for the movie generation who can surely relate with the songs here,” says Christian. “Our team listed down many songs from various films and then we eliminated one by one until the remaining 13 songs in the album now are all that remained.”

Our faves are “When You Say Nothing at All” from “Notting Hill”, “The Way We Were” from the Barbra Streisand film of the same title (he duets with Rachelle Ann Go), “Come What May” from “Moulin Rouge” (duet with Nikki Gil), “Way Back into Love” from “Music and Lyrics” and “Unchained Melody” from “Ghost”. The other selections are “How Deep is Your Love”, “A Thousand Years” from “Twilight”, “After All” (duet with Karylle), “Cruisin’ (duet with Julie Anne San Jose)”, “Love is All Around”, “Kiss from a Rose” and “Seasons of Love”.

How will he spend Christmas? “With my family. It’s a tradition na hindi puedeng baliin, with my cousins and pamangkins. But sa New Year, I fly to London to watch my friends Rachelle Ann Go in ‘Miss Saigon’ and Mark Bautista in ‘Here Lies Love’. I’ve read the rave reviews about their performances and I want to see it for myself.”

Christian himself is nominated as best actor at the Aliw Awards for “Ghost The Musical” which he did with Cris Villonco. “Ang gagaling ng mga kalaban ko so I don’t know if I’d win, but I’m already thankful for the nomination.”
