Director Joel Lamangan Act In 'Violator' & Plays A Police Captain Battling Cancer And The Devil

ANOTHER INTERESTING entry in the Cinema One Originals Filmfest is “Violator”, the directorial debut of Eduardo Dayao who also wrote the screenplay. A drama set at the end of the world, it is about five men holed up inside a police precinct during the apocalypse. Two of them are Director Joel Lamangan, who is an actor this time, and Victor Neri. This is Victor’s second indie film in a row, after “Separados” that was shown in the recent Cinemalaya.

Joel Lamangan also appeared in an acting role in “Separados” as a barangay captain and he was very effective. This time, he plays the role of a police captain who’s dying of cancer but gets possessed by the devil in “Violator”. Did Direk Dayao, a former critic who lambasted some of Joel’s films before, find it difficult to convince Joel to act anew?
“Yes, it took quite long to convince him to act but after the first scene, he was very accommodating all throughout the shoot,” says the director. “In fact, humihingi pa siya ng second take if he’s not satisfied with the scene.”

Also in the cast are Cesar Montano, RK Bagatsing, Anthony Falcon, Timothy Mabalot, Andy Bais and Elizabeth Oropesa. “Violator” will have its Gala Night at Promenade Greenhills tomorrow, Monday, 10 PM.
