JERICHO ROSALES won the Urian best actor award for the indie film, “Alagwa”, so it’s not surprising for him to agree to do another one, “Red”, an entry in the Cinema One Originals Filmfest. He plays the title role and his character is not a good boy but a fixer. Doesn’t this run counter to his deep Christian faith and values?
The movie’s writer-director, Jay Abello, answered first for Jericho. “Echo is an actor. He’s just portraying a role, so he did it. His range as an actor gave justice to the very complex charater. Although Red defies the law, he does have an honest core.”
“Being a Christian naman, I’m not here to preach but to work as an actor,” says Echo. “E, si Red, fictional character siya but maraming reality doon sa story like nagmamahal siya, guma-gawa siya ng maraming mali, then ’yung ending ng story is a typical risk kung anong klase ng buhay mo. So this is a perfect story for a perfect victim and for the perfect viewer who’s looking for answers and certain solutions in life. So, I said perfect film ito. Ang point lang doon, gusto kong mag-action. I haven’t done an action movie and I’m given a chance to do that in this one.”
He is shown cursing and saying bad words in the movie. “Yes, may ganung scenes, but that’s Red, the character I play, not me.”
Actually, the movie quickly gained attention when it’s poster indicated that it’s a “putang ina movie”. But someone from the MTRCB has reacted so they’ve removed it. As Red, Echo plays an orphan who grew up in a girlie bar. As a fixer, he can bail anyone out of trouble. Then one day, a rich kid is gunned down in a drug bust, resulting into the disappearance of P8 million worth of drugs. Red is hired to fix the mess but ends up being framed for the crime. Direk Jay says his film is based on read people and events that happened in his hometown. Also in “Red” are Mylene Dizon, Bibeth Orteza, Nico Antonio, Mercedes Cabral, Monsour del Rosario, JM Rodriguez, Pepe Smith and many more.
Will Echo let his wife Kim Jones watch the film? “Of course, nag-reserve na ko ng seat for her in our gala night sa Fairview Terraces on Tuesday, 7:30 PM.”
“Red” will be shown at Trinoma, Fairview Terraces, Glorietta and Greenhills Dolby Atmos Theatre starting Monday, November 10. For the schedules, check Cinema One Originals and their Facebook page.
