JM De Guzman Determined To Fight Temptation As He Makes A Movie Comeback In 'That Thing Called Tadhana'

JM DE GUZMAN says he was nervous when he faced the press at the launch of Cinema One Originals Filmfest that starts tomorrow in Trinoma, Glorietta, Fairview Terraces and Greenhills. “Bale comeback movie ko ang entry namin dito ni Angelica Panganiban na ‘That Thing Called Tadhana’,” he says. “My last film was ‘Intoy Syokoy’ sa Cinemalaya. Siempre, kabado ako how people will accept me now. Masaya ako to be doing films again, but may fear pa rin kasi ang tagal ko ngang nawala.”

In “That Thing Called Tadhana”, Angelica plays the role of a hearbroken young woman who meets JM by chance. JM invites her to join him in travelling to Baguio and Sagada and the film becomes a road movie where they get to know more about each other. Director Antoinette Jadaone says the movie is inspired by the Ethan Hawke-Julie Delpy romantic flick, “Before Sunrise” and will answer the question “Where do broken hearts go?”

JM said he’s so energized facing the movie cameras again. He enjoyed working with Angelica and Direk Antoinette. Is it true he and Jessy Mendiola have reconciled? “No, but I’m happy lang na dumating siya sa recent birthday ko. At least, friends na kami uli. Pero wala akong panahon sa lovelife. Inaayos ko pa rin ang career ko.”

We notice he has a tattoo of a date on his arm in Roman numerals. What are those? “June 28, 2013, the day na ipinasok ako sa rehab. Gusto ko na nga itong ipabura.”

Does he still get tempted to go backsliding? “I don’t even drink or smoke anymore, pero hindi nawawala ang tukso, lalo na when I’m bored. It’s up to you kung paano mo iiwasan ito. Ako, I do boxing, wrestling, I work out sa gym, I compose songs. Kaya happy ako when I’m busy, like nang ilagay ako ng ABS sa ‘Hawak Kamay’ and when I was shooting this movie. Kaya sana, bigyan na lang nila ako lagi ng trabaho para tuloy-tuloy. Happy nga ako na busy rin ako ngayon promoting my album, ‘Tensiyonado’, with Ivory Records. I really have to keep myself busy dahil pinagsisisihan ko nang nagdroga ako noon.”

We will definitely watch “That Thing Called Tadhana” when it’s shown on its Gala Night, 8 PM, at Trinoma Cinema on Thursday, November 13.
