THERE ARE talks that Kim Chiu and Xian Lim have already been going steady for two years now and they just won’t admit it. But at the presscon of their newest movie, “Past Tense”, they both claim that they’re still just the best of friends.
“Mas naging comfortable lang kami ngayon sa isa’t isa,” says Xian.
“Na-miss namin ang isa’t isa kasi the last time we worked together was in ‘Bride for Rent’ early this year pa and after that, magkakalayo ang shows namin, siya sa Australia ipinadala, ako sa Canada,” says Kim who is tapped by the Walt Disney Company to play Mulan in a project about Disney princesses next year.
Where is Xian in her life now, in the past, present or future tense? “Definitely, wala siya sa past tense. Nasa pelikulang ‘Past Tense’ siya, pero wala siya sa past ko. Nasa present or future, wow!”
How bright is Xian’s future with her?
Movie writers say Kim should not be believed because she kept on denying then that she’s going steady with her former ka-love team, Gerald Anderson, only to eat her words later when they broke up and admitted that she cried when Gerald dumped her. It’s good her fans accepted her new love team with Xian. “Past Tense” is their third movie after “Bakit Di Ka Crush ng Crush Mo” and “Bride for Rent”, both big hits. We have no doubt this will be another blockbuster since they’re supported by no less than the Concert Comedy Queen Ai Ai de las Alas. Most people who saw the trailer think it’s a body switch movie, with Ai Ai and Kim transferring into each other’s bodies.
“No,” says Kim. “We’re actually playing the same person. It starts in the year 2034, Ms. Ai Ai wakes up from a coma after 20 years, the result of an accident. Her guardian angel, Benjie Paras, then gives her the chance to correct her mistakes in the past and she returns to 2014, with me playing her younger self. This time, she wants to make things right for me, kahit na maiba yung history ng buhay niya by changing the past. Xian plays my best friend na hindi ko gusto kasi mataba siya. Si Daniel Matsunaga ang gusto ko, but Ms. Ai Ai as my older self will discover something bad about him.”
“Past Tense” is directed by Mae Cruz Alviar, who also helmed them in “Bride for Rent”. Mae just got married and we tell her she seems to have put on weight. “Yes, kasi sobrang happy ako, luto ako ng luto,” she says. “But this will have to stop na. After the movie is shown, back na ko sa aking physical fitness program to lose weight.”
