MARA LOPEZ is the only actress with two entries in the ongoing Cinema One Originals Filmfest: “Bitukang Manok” and “Hindi Sila Tatanda”. A true blue indie favorite, she won her first best actress award in the Cinema One Filmfest of 2012 for the movie “Palitan”. Other films she did are “Melodrama Negra” (also for Cinema One), “Kuwento ni Mabuti” for CineFilipino as Nora Aunor’s daughter, and “Debosyon” for Cinemalaya as a goddess-snake woman (both in 2013), and the title role in “K’na, The Dream Weaver” this year, also for Cinemalaya.
“Bitukang Manok” is a mystery drama with three separate stories, all set in the famous circuitous zigzag road in Quezon Province. Written and directed by Alec Figuracion, Mara shares topbilling with Guji Lorenzana, Missy Maramara, Therese Malvar and Ken Anderson. It will have its Gala Night at the Glorietta Makati tonight, 7:30 PM.
“Hindi Sila Tatanda” is a sci-fi flick about a group of friends who travels to Zambales to retrace the legend of a UFO sighting. They eventually find and befriend an alien who ruins their friendship. Mara co-stars with Callalily vocalist Kean Cipriano, Ketchup Esuebio, Dawn Jimenez and Pam Miras. Its Gala Night is tomorrow, Wednesday, Glorietta Makati at 6:30 PM.
Aside from these indie flicks, she has also finished shooting another one entitled “Barangay Cybersex, The Jenna Espinosa Story”, where she plays a sex worker on the internet. Recently, she also posed nude on the cover of a daring men’s magazine. It seems like she’s really following in the footsteps of her mom, Maria Isabel Lopez, who was so daring in disrobing for the camera in the 1980s in films like “Isla” and “Silip”. You can really say like mother like daughter. Off-cam, the 23-year old Mara is also a champion surfer.
