Ten Brand New Full Length Local Films To Be Shown In Cinema One Originals FilmFest From November 8 To 19

IT’S CINEMA ONE Originals Filmfest once again. The number one cable channel’s annual festival celebrates its 10th anniversary with the theme “Intense”, with ten original entries. Cinema One head Ronald Arguelles said the seed money given to the ten finalists was increased to P2 million each.

They also expanded the filmfest to include the best Asian films like 2014 Cannes Filmfest best pic, “Winter Sleep” from Turkey, 2014 Berlin Filmfest best pic, “Black Coat, Thin Ice” from China, South Korea’s “Sea Fog” and “Hill of Freedom”, and Zhang Yimou’s historical drama, “Coming Home”. There will also be restored Pinoy classics like Vilma Santos’ “Kapag Langit ang Humatol” and “Anak”, and Mike de Leon’s “Hindi Nahahati ang Langit” starring Christopher de Leon, Edu Manzano and Lorna Tolentino. There are short films led by Adolf Alix 19-minute “Kinabukasan” starring Nora Aunor and Alden Richards.

The 10 entries in competition are: “Red” by Jay Abello starring Jericho Rosales, Nico Antonio, Mylene Dizon, Mercedes Cabral, JM Rodriguez, Pepe Smith and Monsour del Rosario.

“Soap Opera” by Remton Zuasola (of the award-winning “Damgo ni Eleuteria”) starring real life sweethearts Lovi Poe and Rocco Nacino, with Matt Daclan, Bugoy Carino and Natalie Sitoy.

“That Thing Called Tadhana” by Antoinette Jadaone (of “Beauty in a Bottle”, “Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay”) starring Angelica Panganiban and the comebacking JM de Guzman.

“Violator” by Eduardo Dayao starring Victor Neri, Cesar Montano, Beth Oropesa, RK Bagatsing, Anthony Falcon and Director Joel Lamangan in an acting role.

“Bitukang Manok”, a trilogy by Alec Figuracion set in the famous winding road in Quezon Province starring Mara Lopez, Guji Lorenzana, Missy Maramara, Ken Anderson and child actress Therese Malvar.

“Lorna” by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo (of “Huling Chacha ni Anita”) starring Shamaine Buencamino in the title role of a senior citizen looking for love, Maria Isabel Lopez, Angel Aquino, Jim Paredes, Juan Rodrigo, Alex Medina, Felix Roco and Director Lav Diaz in an acting role as Shamaine’s leading man.

“Esprit de Corps” by Kanakan Balintagos (formerly known as Aureus Solito of “Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros”, “Pisay” and “Baybayin”) starring Sandino Martin, Lharby Policarpio and JC Santos.

“The Babysitters” by Paolo O’Hara starring Jayson Gainza and Katya Santos as the caretakers of a kidnapped boy, Jhiz Deocareza, who decide to keep him and run away with him.

“Hindi Sila Tatanda” by Malay Javier about three friends who meet an alien from a UFO starring Mara Lopez, Ketchup Eusebio and Dawn Jimenez.

“Seoul Mates” by Nash Ang, a Pinoy based in Korea. Filmed in Korea, it stars Mimi Juareza (of “Quick Change”) as a lovelorn transgender, with Korean actors Jisoo Kim, Jiwon Cha and Ryung Oh.

All the Cinema One entries will be shown starring this Sunday, November 8 up to November 19, at Trinoma, Glorietta, Farview Terraces and Greenhills Dolby Atmos Theatre. Go watch! We’ll write more about each entry in the days to come.
