DINGDONG DANTES says he doesn’t feel stressed by his coming wedding to Marian Rivera. “Most of the details, plantsado na, mga 80%,” he says. “Wala akong nararamdamang kaba. Baka kapag malapit na, doon ako kabahan. But right after the wedding, we intend to rest and relax for a while, kasama na ang aming honeymoon, to appreciate and reflect on all the blessings we got this year.”
How come there was a report he was taken to St. Luke’s because he got sick? “Sumama kasi ang pakiramdam ko kaya nagpa-check-up ako. Hindi naman ganun ka-serious. Kinakailangan lang ng konting pahinga. Kasi, as of now, busy rin kasi kami sa promo ng respective filmfest entries namin. Ako with ‘Kubot, Aswang Chronicles’. Siya with ‘My Big Bossing’. Usapan na naming isasama ko siya sa premiere night ng ‘Kubot’ at isasama niya ko sa ‘Big Bossing’ premiere.”
He’s very proud of “Kubot”. “This is definitely better than the first movie, ‘Tiktik’. Madalas sinasabing mas maganda ang una kesa sequel, but ito, confident akong
sabihing mas maganda talaga ‘yung pangalawa. Mas pinaganda ang story, mas pinaganda ang effects. It starts na iniwan namin ang Pulupandan and we encounter a new clan of aswangs, ang Kubot, mga babaeng aswang with long hair na parang tentacles na pumapatay sa mga kalaban nila.
Aren’t they afraid that they’ll be competing with two other horror flicks, “Shake Rattle & Roll 15” and “Feng Shui 2”? It’s “Kubot” director Erik Matti who answers.
“Hindi naman kami horror,” he says. “May aswang, yes, but we’re more of an action-adventure movie. Punong-puno ito ng action scenes, ng sagupaan ni Dingdong and his allies against the aswangs. Kumuha kami ng Chinese action directors to make sure na naiiba ang action sequences namin dito. Tapos, marami rin itong comic scenes provided by Joey Marquez, Lotlot de Leon and Ramon Bautista. So hindi ito basta horror movie lang.”
