RIGHT AFTER winning four best actor awards (Harlem and Hanoi International Filmfest, Metro filmfest and Gawad Tanglaw) for his crackerjack portrayal of a lowly coffin maker who feels guilty for the accidental death of his daughter, Allen Dizon is now shooting two new films simultaneously where his roles are both once again very challenging and of the pang-award variety.
Before 2014 ended, he started shooting “Imbisibol” for Director Lawrence Fajardo, shot on location in Japan during winter. The film is about the stories of Filipino men who work as entertainers called hostos in Japan. Because they work illegally, the have to be “imbisibol” in the eyes of Japanese authorities. Allen plays the aging hosto while JM de Guzman represents the younger hostos. The cast also includes Ricky Davao, Bernardo Bernardo and Ces Quesada. This is an entry in the new local film festival, Sinag Maynila, spearheaded by Cannes Filmfest best director Dante Mendoza, to be shown in March.
Last Sunday, Allen started shooting “Daluyong” for Director Mel Chionglo, based on an original script by Ricky Lee. He plays a young priest who is seduced by a sexy parishioner, Diana Zubiri, and they have a child. Also in the cast are Eddie Garcia and Aiko Melendez. We’re sure his challenging roles in these new movies will bring more acclaim for Allen. Meantime, we won’t be surprised if he’d win more best actor trophies in the coming awards-giving season for the local film industry.
