Alvin Elchico, Bernadette Sembrano, Lynda Jumilla Get Praised For Their Coverage Of The Papal Visit

LOTS OF VIEWERS commend Alvin Elchico’s sober, calm but still vivis reporting during ABS-CBN’s papal coverage in Leyte. He was paired with Bernadette Sembrano, who at one point stopped speaking and said, “Namnamin natin ang mga eksenang nakikita natin ngayon”, while clips of the Pope’s motorcade in Leyte were shown on-screen. Sometimes it’s enough for viewers to watch those heartwarming scenes on TV without the anchors’ extra commentary.

A lot of people have also praised Lynda Jumilla for her stint as ABS-CBN Vatican media correspondent. She was one of the lucky few who went on board the papal flight from Sri Lanka to Manila and from Manila to Rome. She even learned Italian and did a lot of research prior to the coverage, and her preparations truly paid off, as proven by her informative papal news reports.

Lynda is used to covering political issues, so it wasn’t surprising that she was very professional in her approach to reporting details about the Pope and the papal flight. It was also refreshing to see her cover an influential figure who is close to the hearts of Filipinos, making him more human and appealing when she reported that Pope Francis had potato chips and canned juice on their flight from Leyte back to Manila. It’s really fascinating to know that the Pope is a regular person just like all the rest of us.
